Oh Lord, please bless this music that it might glorify your name.
May the talent that you have bestowed upon me be used only to serve you.
Let this music be a witness to your majesty and love, and remind us that you are always watching, and listening, from your throne above.
May your presence and beauty be found in every note, and may the words that are sung reach the hearts of your people so they will draw closer to you.
May your Spirit guide us through every measure so that we might be the instruments of your peace, and proclaim your glory with glad voices.
Amen
“He Who Sings, Prays Twice!”
All members of our Music Ministry are called by God to share their time, talent and treasure. Our music ministry provides ways for members of our community to put their gifts and talents into service through various musical opportunities.
The role of the Music Ministry is to encourage active particpation at liturgy by providing musical support and leadership at Mass and other special services. Our purpose as pastoral musicians is first and foremost to enable the sung prayer of the assembly.
Music Ministry is teamwork! The combined effort of each person on the team determines the degree of success of the team. Therefore, some prep time is necessary for the group to function efficiently as a coordinated whole. Rehearsal times for choir, cantors and instrumentalists are extremely important.
The St. Michael Choir is made up of high school and adult singers. Reading music is not necessary for participation in this group. We welcome anyone who joyfully wants to praise God thru music. We rehearse weekly on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:30PM from September to early June. We have one “All In” Sunday per month where members make it a priority to sing, usually at the 10:30AM mass and all major solemnities and feasts. We also sing at the 10:30AM mass where members come when they are available. Come and sing with us for a rehearsal to know if you would enjoy and find fellowship with us.
The Saint Cecilia Schola and Consort (SCSC) is made up of singers from grades 7-12 (boys and girls). The SCSC is also home to instrumentalists high school age to adult. The SCSC sings 4-5 times per school year, which includes Christmas mass at 4:00PM and Easter Mass at 8:00AM. The name “schola” means a group which sings sacred music. The word “consort” is a group of instrumentalists. Please consider checking us out to see if you’d like to join.
Jubilate [ˈjo͞obəˌlāt] is our children’s choir, open to grades 3-6. Jubilate rehearses Wednesdays before faith formation during the seasons of Advent and Lent. Watch the Eblast and bulletin to know when rehearsals begin. This group has fun singing together, while growing in friendship and holiness.
The Gregorian Schola will be forming in the near future. The Gregorian Schola will be made of up singers with high school/College choral experience. The Gregorian Schola is an audtitioned group that sings sacred choral music and Gregorian chant. The Schola will sing one or two pieces during high feasts i.e. Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Christmas. Rehearsals will happen before the assigned mass at the convenience of the group’s preference.
Cantors encourage and lead the sung prayer at Masses when no choir is present. The cantor also proclaims the psalm during the Liturgy of the Word and may lead other responses during Mass.
Instrumentalists add spirit to our liturgies. Skilled musicians of many varieties are welcome. Some instruments are appropriate to play at Mass each week with the choir or a cantor. Other instruments are reserved for Feast Days and other special occasions.
As Christ gifts himself to us in the
Eucharistic feast of his Body and Blood,
let us be gift to others through our time and talents.
